Our client's terrace in Luxembourg required urgent work because multiple water leaks had damaged the underlying structure. Left untreated, these leaks also caused damp problems inside the home, jeopardising the terrace's durability as well as the occupants' comfort. The project's main objective was therefore to fully restore the terrace's waterproofing to prevent future leaks, while also restoring the appearance and functionality of this outdoor space.
The refurbishment of our client's terrace forms part of a comprehensive renovation and designed to address water ingress while delivering an elegant, and durable finish. Following the various stages of work—from removing the slabs on pedestals to renewing the waterproofing and laying tiles—the terrace is now protected from the elements and its underlying structures are secure. Our client now has a fully functional and pleasant outdoor space that is both robust and resistant to water ingress. This project demonstrates technical expertise in waterproofing and terrace refurbishment.
Initial assessment and project background
Water ingress is one of the main problems affecting terraces because it compromises not only the surface's appearance and usability, but above all the building's structural integrity. In our client's case, the damage to the terrace was particularly concerning, with signs of damp on the ceilings and internal walls beneath the structure. This situation required extensive work to restore the waterproofing and prevent further deterioration.
To carry out the work, the team first removed the existing slabs on pedestals to gain full access to the surface requiring treatment. This made it possible to inspect the condition of the underlying layers and prepare the area for the new waterproofing solutions. The terrace waterproofing was then completely refurbished, providing lasting protection against any future water ingress.
Once the waterproofing had been restored, the team poured a screed—an essential element for ensuring a level, solid surface before installing the final covering. The final stage involved laying tiles on the terrace, adding finishing trims for a neat appearance and grouting the joints to a high standard. This ensured an attractive, and durable finish over the restored waterproofing system.
